Winder Power Shortlisted for Made in Yorkshire Award

We were delighted to attend the inaugural Made in Yorkshire Awards at The Royal Armouries last night, held by the Insider business magazine, and even more proud to have been shortlisted in the Small Manufacturer (under £20m) category.

The company was shortlisted for its sales growth, business development and innovation over the twelve months from July 2012 to June 2013, a period which saw the company undergoing a management buyout, launching its growth strategy, and most importantly recently announced 365 days without lost time or reportable incident.

The black tie event, excellently compered by BBC journalist Justin Webb, forms part of a UK-wide celebration of British manufacturing which, as Justin mentioned, plays a vital part in the recovering UK economy.

Keynote speaker Brian Holliday, divisional director of Siemens, emphasized the rich heritage of making things in the region, starting with the growth of the steel industry in Sheffield and now encompassing many diverse sectors from food to healthcare.

Here at Winder Power we are immensely proud to have been part of this landscape for over 100 years, during which time we have continued to be an active member not only in the manufacturing sector, but also in the wider Yorkshire business community, relying on our highly skilled Yorkshire workforce to create our transformers and generators which perform admirably in the harshest conditions around the world.

Managing director Laurence MacKenzie was in attendance at the celebration alongside his colleagues, and he commented; “I am delighted that the hard work of our whole team has been recognised by being shortlisted for this prestigious award. An awards event such as this gives us time to reflect on our achievements, whilst reminding us of the need to constantly push ourselves to improve.”
