Winder Power Ltd announces major expansion plan

20 new jobs to be created by the end of 2015 as a result of significant growth 

Winder Power Ltd, has today announced its intention to expand and grow its Leeds-based operations, creating 20 new full-time positions.  The leading UK manufacturer of power and distribution transformers and generator equipment are seeking to fill roles right across the company in areas such as transformer erection and winding, substation services and purchasing.  In addition, four apprenticeship opportunities will be available as part of this exciting expansion, which represents a significant sign of growth and development for the wider Leeds and Yorkshire region.

The new jobs, including the apprentice positions, will bolster the existing workforce of 100 based in Leeds, before the end of the year and will help to bring a new dimension to the company’s capabilities and its commitment to customer serviceWinder Power specialises in the design, build, deployment and management of distribution transformers and power transformers up to 60MVA, serving a wide range of customers in the utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors across the UK and internationally. The new jobs also mean that the company will invest in more resources to facilitate its expansion across the company and it is hoped that many of the new apprentice positions could be filled from local third-level universities and institutions in the Yorkshire region.

Speaking at the announcement, Operations Director, Andy Pinkney, said: “We are proud to have had a significant presence in Leeds for over 100 years, and today marks an important step for the company. Our workforce has served as a tremendous asset to our operations to date and we are particularly pleased to be making this sizeable investment to expand our team and, continue our long-standing operations in Yorkshire.”  

Originally known as RF Winder which was founded around the corner from the current premises in 1898, all Winder products continue to be designed, hand wound and assembled at the company’s 80,000 square foot factory in Leeds. Winder moved to the new headquarters in 2008, which provided enhanced facilities for continued growth of its power and distribution transformer business for utilities transportation and industry. Today’s announcement follows a significant period of growth for Winder Power Ltd, who have secured major contracts with Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution Ltd (SSEPD) and the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk in the past 12 months.
