Key Account Manager

Main Duties

Role Description: The Key Account Manager will oversee contract negotiation, management, and execution while cultivating strong relationships with key clients, particularly Distribution Network Operators (DNOs/iDNOs), Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and End users in the midlands and southern region to drive business growth. This role requires a unique combination of strategic account management skills and expertise in contract oversight within the transformer and energy distribution sectors. The ideal candidate will be familiar with contract framework agreements that are awarded based on a competitive tender, Contract management of awarded frameworks , and a proven track record of customer growth and retention.

 

Sales and Business Development:

  • Meeting clients to establish their requirements.
  • Develop and execute account plans to achieve sales targets, leveraging opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of products and services that meet client expectations.
  • Researching and approaching new prospect customers.
  • Stay informed about market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies within the energy sector to identify growth opportunities.

 

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the main contact for assigned key customers, nurturing long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Understand client needs and objectives, providing tailored solutions to enhance satisfaction and retention.
  • Represent the company at client meetings and industry events to strengthen relationships and identify new opportunities.

 

Tenders & Contract Management:

  • Lead the preparation, review, and negotiation of Tender contracts with clients to ensure alignment with agreed terms and company objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for contractual matters during tendering, project delivery, and post-completion phases for clients, site and project managers.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with legal, regulatory, and company standards, mitigating risks effectively.
  • Monitor contract performance to ensure obligations are met by all parties and address any discrepancies promptly. • Preparing project plans and timescales for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing costs and changes project scope, dealing with unexpected costs with clients.

 

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with sales, engineering, Procurement, Production and Transformer Services to align client needs.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of contract terms to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop client-specific campaigns and communication strategies.

 

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of contracts and client interactions.
  • Prepare regular reports on contract performance, account metrics, and potential risks for senior management.
  • Support audits and reviews by providing required documentation and insights.

 

General:

  • Carry out any reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by your direct Line Manager or the Management Team
  • Promote teamwork and co-operation at all times, both within individual depots and right across the entire Winder Power group
  • Always act in the best interests of any of the Winder Power Group, and not to carry out (or fail to carry out) any action that would bring the company into disrepute
  • Always work in a responsible manner to ensure safe working practices

Requirements to carry out the role

  • HNC/HND in Engineering or Business or relevant industry experience (Degree in Engineering – Desirable)
  • Proven experience in contract management, key account management, Tendering management within the UK Energy industry.
  • Familiarity with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) & ICP/iDNOs.
  • Product knowledge of Transformer and switchgear products is preferred.
  • Knowledge of framework tender process, contract negotiation and contract management.
  • Experience of working with the UK Electrical networks and knowledge of the UK DNOs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage high-level client relationships.
  • Exceptional negotiation and problem-solving skills to handle complex contracts and account challenges.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, contract management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification in contract management or project management (e.g., AMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
  • Valid UK driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to visit company offices and clients.
