Main Duties


Manage, maintain and improve the Company integrated Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Management System to ISO9001, 14001 & OHSAS18001 externally audited standards.

Ensure equipment is installed safely;

Study manufacturing documentation ensuring correct manufacturing issue;

Carry out regular checks of policies and procedures and that they are being properly implemented;

Conduct HSE internal surveys, investigations and audits, overseeing the delivery of corrective action outcomes and effective records and monitor customer quality satisfaction;

Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements;

Develop and operate a rapid response system for dealing with supplier, process or customer non-conformance (Communicate with customers and suppliers during the non-conformance process);

Management of Tool Box talks in conjunction with line Managers;

Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced;

Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards;

Provide a professional service to all Management to promote and maintain the HSE culture;

Implementation of new or existing HSE related legislation and identify any training requirements;

Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks;

Investigate accidents/incidents, liaise with interested parties, ensure all documentation is completed and facilitate corrective actions where necessary and produce statistics for managers;

Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer’s industry and lead operational reviews and change requirements to maintain compliance;

Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins;

Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation;

Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos;

Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases;

Provide regular situation reports to the manager and the team;

Requirements to carry out the role

GCSEs High school or equivalent;

NEBOSH / IOSH Managing safely certificate;

Can conduct HSE internal surveys, investigation and audits;

Produce SHE related management reports;

It would be beneficial to have ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 45001 Standards internal audit qualifications (e.g. certificates from courses run by Accreditation Organisation such as the BSI);

Previous Health and safety environmental experience;

COSHH Assessments experience;

Risk and method statement experience;

BSI Audit Skills experience;

Management of Tool Box talks (Desirable);

Fire Assessments experience (Desirable);

Environmental certification (Desirable).
