E-Techs Training at Winder Power

Powering Excellence for Over a Century

Since our establishment in 1898, Winder Power Limited has been dedicated to the design, manufacture, and service of high performance Power and Distribution Transformers. Operating from our 80,000 square-foot facility in Leeds, West Yorkshire, we’ve built a reputation as one of the UK’s top manufacturers in this space. Our team of over 100 skilled engineers and technicians continually push the standards of quality, efficiency, and technical precision, exceeding industry regulations like the Ecodesign Directive and embodying our commitment to sustainability.

The Role of Elpress Systems in Winder Power’s Success

A key contributor to our sustained excellence is our integration of Elpress systems, supplied by E-Tech Components. Since E-Tech’s inception in 2004, they have delivered leading edge solutions by Elpress – a pioneer in cable crimping since 1959. Elpress’s KRF® and KRFS Crimping Lugs and Connectors are crucial in ensuring the longevity and stability of our transformer connections, as they’re engineered to handle the most demanding conditions with reliable, IEC 61238-certified quality.

By adopting the Elpress Complete Cable Crimping System, Winder Power has transitioned from traditional brazing to a fully tested, environmentally responsible solution that prioritises both performance and safety. This system includes components like Tee Connectors, Two-Hole Lugs, and Reducing Splices, all of which are tested in depth and integrated into our quality assurance process. With E-Tech Components’ support, we’ve strengthened our quality controls, ensuring that every connection in our transformers meets and exceeds industry benchmarks.

Empowering Expertise: Elpress and E-Tech’s Training at Winder Power

To maintain our high standards, we invest in ongoing training for our team. In September 2024, Winder Power hosted a specialised training session led by E-Tech Components and Elpress Academy at our Leeds HQ. This training, led by Elpress Account Manager Liselotte Wagstrom, focused on optimising the application of Elpress crimping systems to bolster our commitment to quality and sustainability in electrical connections.

Speaking after the training, Daniel Cornford, our Assistant Production Manager, expressed the value of this partnership:

“Winder power and Etech have worked together for 20 years using the Elpress system and we really value our partnership. Their system has not only improved the quality of our finished product but has also improved the overall process making it quicker and easier for our staff to understand. We have found their sliding crimp guide easy to use and understand time after time depending on the job. Once the crimp process has been done we physically check each crimp is up to standard with their supplied die reference card which again makes the process quick and easy but more importantly makes it near impossible to let a bad crimp go through the quality check.”

Beyond training, E-Tech Components also offers on-site crimping inspections and other specialised services, which help us keep our systems aligned with the latest industry standards.

System Elpress: Ensuring Integrity

Our success relies on a comprehensive crimping system where every component – whether it’s the conductor, terminals, tools, documentation, or trained personnel – work together seamlessly. With E-Tech Components, we can be sure that every element of our crimping systems meet the highest of standards, delivering secure, sustainable, and reliable connections that meet client needs and maintain our position at the forefront of the transformer industry.

Through our ongoing collaboration with E-Tech Components and Elpress, Winder Power is proud to lead the way in delivering efficient, sustainable, and high-performance solutions for Power and Distribution Transformers.
