Archbishop Holgate’s School’s Visit to Winder Power

Pupils and teachers from Archbishop Holgate’s School in York recently visited the Winder Power factory in Leeds.

The 14 sixth form students currently studying Engineering took part in a safety induction and also had a tour of the factory so that they could see how power transformers are manufactured.

Mr Tom Milner, the Head of Engineering at the school said of the visit; “The pupils gained valuable experience and it allowed them to see things that just couldn’t be provided in a classroom setting. The tour was excellent and everyone was very welcoming.”

Mr Milner also tweeted on the school’s account, “Amazing visit to Winder Power. Factory tour was inspiring to say the least!”

Winder Power Technical Director Elizabeth MacKenzie added: “We have a strong track record of developing young people though our Apprenticeship scheme and Graduate training, and we wish the pupils the best of luck in their Engineering careers.

“Manufacturing is not always top of students’ agenda for a career choice and hopefully what they saw on their visit highlighted the excellent career opportunities that engineering can offer.”
