At Winder Power we have a tremendous history.
Winder Power has been an established business for over a century; and in that time our dedication to innovation, customer service and industry excellence has grown alongside our impressive portfolio.

Our team now consists of over 135 employees who each contribute to our extensive wealth of knowledge and experience, and are committed to providing an array of services to our diverse customer base who specialise in sectors such as utilities, renewable energy and industrial applications.

In 2008 Winder Power moved to newer and larger premises in Stanningley, just around the corner from its previous home but another world away in terms of facilities. This move brought a new dimension to the company’s capabilities and also to its commitment to customer service. The new headquarters provide enhanced facilities for continued growth of its power and distribution transformer business. The new premises nearly doubles Winder Power’s manufacturing capability, offering larger crane facilities, room for a new test laboratory and providing a more efficient office environment for the growing design, sales and business support teams. Manufacturing space has also increased, which has enhanced productivity.
The company underwent a management buy-out, which in turn saw the installation of a senior management team and a new chairman at the head of the business. The aim of this was to enhance Winder Power’s growth, the services we offer and utility contracts won. The team has been highly successful and has created a strong platform that has the ability to refocus and develop the business.
The company secured a three year deal with Northern Ireland Electricity for the design, manufacture and supply of power transformers in a variety of capacities, from 6.25MVA through to 25 MVA. The company has since been very successful in winning long term contracts with other electricity network owners.

In 1981 Winder Power, or RF Winder as it was styled then, was the first main shirt sponsor of Leeds United, and it was the period that brought the company to the attention of the wider local community. The sponsorship package at the time cost around £40,000, which is the equivalent of £120,000 in today’s money! You can see the shirt design above, and if you are really keen you can purchase one of the original shirts on the website vintagefootballshirts.com – for £110!
At this stage in the company’s development, the business covered a wide range of services and mainly focused on motors.
Throughout the 1960s the company was heavily involved in electrical contracting work such as wiring factories and buildings, with a team of 50 people producing this kind of work.
RF Winder was founded by Roland Fredrick Winder.
