11 New Jobs as Winder Power Launches £1m Test Facility

Leeds based power transformer and generator manufacturer Winder Power has launched its latest innovation with the official opening of its new test high-voltage test facility, attended by guest of honour Stuart Andrew, Member of Parliament for Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough.

Representing a significant investment of £1m, the testing facility will help to improve the company’s competitive position as well as creating 11 additional jobs, representing an increase in the workforce of 14%. It will also ensure that Winder Power’s stringent quality procedures are validated by rigorous test processes.

Following a tour of the company’s 80,000 sq ft premises, Mr Andrew commented:

“I would be incredibly proud of this manufacturing business wherever it was in the UK,
but to have it in my constituency is simply fantastic.”

The launch marks the latest in a series of investments that signify the commitment Winder Power has made to specialist UK manufacturing.  Despite the challenging economic climate, the company has maintained its focus on providing the highest levels of service and craftsmanship from its Leeds headquarters, and continues to deliver growth through an expanded service offering and faster delivery of projects.

Paul Matthews, general manager at Winder Power continues;

“Winder Power is benefitting from a very strong order book of more than double the
level it was at 12 months ago, and the investment in the high-voltage test facility has
been an important contributory factor.”

The new facility enables Winder Power to undertake full load tests on all of its transformers. The company has also invested in new instrumentation equipment alongside its new testing facility. This incorporates a power analyser, resistance bridges and partial discharge equipment. This new facility provides detailed information on the performance of the transformers it manufactures, and identifies any potential problems before they could cause damage.
